This feature is currently rolling out to cloud customers. Your site may not reflect these changes, or you might not see it in your site just yet.

Notification policies allow users to manage how alerts reach teams, impact routing and deduplication, and when to notify in the after-hours. Having the correct notification policies in action can drastically prevent alert and notification fatigue.

Notification policies are a team-based feature. That means when you create a notification policy, its rules will only apply to the alerts redirected to your team and your team’s operations.

Jira Service Management applies the policies to the alerts by checking from top to bottom. This means that even if multiple policies match an alert’s properties, Jira Service Management will apply the first policy it matches.

Create a notification policy

To create a new notification policy:

  1. Go to Teams from your top menu and navigate to your team’s operations from the team detail.

  2. Select Policies from your side navigation.

  3. Switch to the Notification policies tab.

  4. Select Create notification policy.

  5. Enter a name and description for your policy.

  6. From Alert filters, select which alerts you want to apply this policy.

  7. If you want this policy to be enacted on specific hours only, select Receive alerts during specified time slots only option.

  8. Under Notification preferences, select how you want the alert notifications to behave when this policy is on. You can select one or more options at a time.

    1. Select Restart to reset the alert notification cycle from its beginning. This means, depending on your alert’s configuration, it will notify everyone from the beginning, with the same rotation and durations. You can select to restart 20 times with XXX minutes of gap between each cycle.

    2. Select Delay or turn off to suppress the notifications temporarily. You can delay the notifications based on time or the alert’s deduplication count. Or you can turn off the notifications permanenetly.

    3. Select Close to change the alert status to Close. This means Jira Service Management will close the alert after selected duration.

  9. If you want this policy to be active immediately, select Turn on policy now option.
